Women’s Equality Day 2022

Women’s Equality Day, also known as International Women’s Day celebrates the passing of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1920; granting women the right to vote. It is a day to acknowledge the passage of women’s suffrage and the monumental achievements of women’s rights activist, like Susan B Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone and countless others.  

The theme for this years, Women’s Equality Day is “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. It is themed to appreciate the innumerable contributions of women and girls around the world, who are leading the evolution on climate change adaption, mitigation, and the response to build a more sustainable future.

Promoting opportunities and removing constraints to empower women and girls to be equal players in the decision-making related to climate change and sustainability is essential for a viable future.

On August 26, 1920, after decades of hard-fought advocacy, women won the right to vote, and our Nation moved one step closer to living out our sacred ideal that all people are created equal.  On Women’s Equality Day, we honor the movement for universal suffrage that led to the 19th Amendment, celebrate the progress of women over the years, and renew our commitment to advancing gender equity and protecting women’s rights…READ MORE: A Proclamation on Women’s Equality Day, 2022 – The White House
