Best Buddies Champion of the Year, Fundraiser in Support of Best Buddies Central Florida

September 5, 2017 in News

What is Champion of the Year?

It’s a friendly(ish) fundraising competition between a group of champions.

Whoever raises the most money wins bragging rights and a boatload of prizes (maybe even a boat). The best part? All funds – 100% of them – go to Best Buddies in your community. If you’re not quite sure why that’s awesome, ponder this:

We all love our best friends, right?

We talk on the phone, meet for coffee, catch a movie, crack corny jokes and eat too many nachos. In a nutshell, we do life together. But not everyone has a best friend. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities can struggle to make connections on their own. The need for belonging is essential – without it, there’s nothing but loneliness and isolation.

Best Buddies is here to make sure everyone has a sidekick.

Someone who knows your favorite ice cream flavor, surprises you on your birthday, picks you up when you’re down, and knows what makes you amazing. After all, isn’t that what we all want?

Our champions are here to raise the funds needed so that everyone can have a best friend.

Best Buddies Champion of the Year Gala will be held on Friday, October 13th from 6:00pm-11:00pm at the Rosen Shingle Creek (9939 Universal Blvd., Orlando, FL 32819).

Best Buddies Central Florida is dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships and leadership development for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD.) Best Buddies is a vibrant, international organization that has grown from one original chapter to more than 2,151 elementary school, middle school, high school and college chapters across the country and internationally.

Our second annual Champion of the year Gala is a fundraiser that includes a fun night of tasty cocktails, an unforgettable meal, live entertainment, and an extraordinary silent and live auction that includes items such as: gift certificates for exquisite dining experiences, one-of-a-kind sporting events, exciting travel packages and other priceless items and experiences.

As one of 12 Champions, Heather C. Kirson is dedicated to spreading awareness and funds through which all proceeds will benefit Best Buddies Central Florida. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $150/individual or $250/couple. Community members and media are invited to attend.
